
Alabama Athletics Places 55 on SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

The Crimson Tide’s total includes a two-time NCAA Champion, a pair of Academic All-Americans and a NCAA Elite 90 Award winner
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A total of 53 University of Alabama student-athletes earned a spot on the 2023 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Wednesday.
A combined total of 31 members from the Alabama men's (13) and women's (18) swimming and diving teams received the recognition. Both squads are coming off successful seasons in 2022-23 which include top-20 NCAA Championship finishes – 14th for the women and the 19th for the men.
College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans Cam Auerbach and Derek Maas, who was also tabbed the 2023 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Division I Elite 90 Award winner, highlighted the men's team, while two-time NCAA Champion and USA National Team member Kensey McMahon led the women's squad.
The SEC regular-season and tournament champion men's basketball team tied for second among SEC men's teams with six members selected to the list, while women's basketball tallied five accolades including recent WNBA draftee Brittany Davis.
A total of 12 Crimson Tide gymnasts were honored this season, including All-Americans Luisa Blanco and Lily Hudson.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The winter list honors those student-athletes that participate in men's and women's basketball, gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving as well as equestrian and rifle.
So far this academic year, Alabama has placed 140 students on the SEC Fall and Winter honor rolls. Additional names will be added to the Tide's tally when the spring and first-year lists comes out early in the summer.
