
School Record Falls for Alabama Track and Field on Opening Night of Multi-Meet Weekend

Mercy Chelangat broke her school record in the women’s 10,000-meter run while teammate Hilda Olemomoi also surpassed the original record to finish first and second, respectively, in the event
AZUSA, Calif. – Late into the night at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Alabama's fourth outdoor school record of the season fell as Mercy Chelangat (31:55.80) shortened her previous time (32:13.13) by over a second in the women's 10,000-meter run.
Teammate Hilda Olemomoi also clocked a time faster than UA's original record with a time of 32:05.83 as the duo finished first and second, respectively, in their first competition since first-team All-America performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Elka Machan rounded out the Crimson Tide lineup on Thursday night, earning a top-25 finish of her own while also setting a new PR in the 10,000-meter run.

- Alabama will compete in eight different events on Friday, the opening day of the meet
- The Tide will start in the men's pole vault (1 p.m. CT) featuring John Landers and Louis Martinez
- Samantha Kunza and Chelsea Igberaese will compete in the women's hammer throw at 2:15 p.m.
- Caelyn Harris will represent Alabama at 4 p.m. in the women's long jump, followed by Hailey Poole (5:10 p.m.) in the women's javelin
- Julian Collins and Quincy Scott will round out the Tide's field events at 6 p.m. in the men's long jump
- On the track, Alabama will start in the women's (4 p.m.) and men's (4:35 p.m.) 200-meter event featuring Na'Taja Ballard, Milan Fields, Chanice Spicer, Amara Obi, Tarsis Orogot, Antonio Crisco, Mathew Weaver and Jonathan Martin
- Alabama's final event in Gainesville, Fla., will be the men's 400-meter hurdles (5:35 p.m.) featuring current school-record holder Chris Robinson, Corde Long, Clayton Elder and Patrick Daves

- On Friday, the Crimson Tide will race in various heats of the 5,000m and the 800m
- At 12 p.m. CT, Carter Waters, Brandon Passman and Collin Jones will compete in the Men's Open B 5,000m event
- Keaton Morrison will then race in the women's open 800m at 4:30 p.m., followed by Kai Crawford on the men's side at 4:20 p.m.
- Grady Shiflet and Quinn Harder will run in the men's invite 800m at 7:05 p.m.
- Alabama will then compete in the Men's Open A 5,000m, starting at 9:12 p.m. featuring Jacob Harris, Will Pinson, Rich Saenz, Jack Hawes and Jacob Wiggers
- Victor Kiprop (11:47 p.m.) and Hillary Cheruiyot (12:19 a.m., April 15) will round out the second day of Alabama's multi-meet weekend in the men's invite 5,000-meter run
