Alabama in Tie for Fifth After Opening Round of the 2023 SEC Women’s Golf Championships

The Crimson Tide finished Wednesday’s first round with a team score of 5-over par 293
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Behind a career-best single-round score from freshman Taylor Kehoe, the Alabama women's golf team ended the opening round of the 2023 Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Championships in a tie for fifth place with a team score of 5-over par 293. The Crimson Tide will enter Thursday's second round of stroke play just five shots off the overall lead and among the top eight teams vying to reach Saturday's match play portion of the event.
Kehoe's career-best round of 2-under par 70 places her in a tie for fifth overall, two shots behind individual leader Celina Sattelkau of Vanderbilt (-4). Kehoe concluded her round with birdies on four of her final six holes.
The tournament will continue Thursday on the par 72, 6,301-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club Legacy Course in Birmingham, Ala. Weather forecasts call for an 80 percent chance of rain and inclement weather in the area.
Round One Highlights
- After carding a 1-over par 37 across her first nine holes, Taylor Kehoe finished at 3-under 33 on the last nine including four birdies, a bogey and a par across her last six holes
- Kehoe finished the day tied for the lead among all individuals on par 5 holes (-3, 4.25) and tied for the third-best score on par 3 holes (-1, 2.75)
- Benedetta Moresco and Emilie Øverås are in a tie for 27th with matching scores of 2-over par 74
- Sarah Edwards is one shot behind the duo at 3-over 75 and will enter the second round in a tie for 36th
- Kynadie Adams rounds out the Crimson Tide golfers in a tie for 47th overall with a 4-over par 76

Team Highlights
- No. 13 Vanderbilt (E) holds the clubhouse lead by two shots over No. 20 Florida (+2) after the first round of play
- No. 3 LSU (+4) and No. 5 Mississippi State (+4) are tied for third overall, one shot ahead of the Crimson Tide and No. 4 South Carolina (+5) who round out the top five teams
- No. 10 Auburn, No. 27 Kentucky and No. 29 Georgia are tied for seventh at 6-over par
- All 14 SEC schools are competing in a 54-hole, stroke-play format, which includes 18 holes across three days
- Eight teams will advance to the match-play quarterfinals Saturday morning, while four teams will improve to the match-play semifinals Saturday afternoon
- The final two teams will go head-to-head in the match-play finals on Sunday
