The win was the 1,300th in Crimson Tide program history
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama softball earned the 6-2 road win Tuesday at Samford, the 1,300th win in program history.
Alabama (29-12) took the early lead over Samford (17-23) with two runs in the first inning, but the Bulldogs got one back in the bottom half to cut the lead in half. With the bases loaded and two out in the top of the second, a bobble on a would-be inning ending force out at second extended the frame and plated a run for the Crimson Tide. Bailey Dowling took advantage in the next at-bat, roping a double down the line to clear the bases and drive in three unearned runs to make it a 6-1 game. With the score the same in the bottom of the fifth, an RBI double drove in one for the Bulldogs but that would be the last run of the game as Alabama held on to win 6-2.
The win was the 1,300th in program history, giving the Tide a 1,300-392 all-time record since the program's inaugural 1997 season. Dowling led the offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with four RBIs, her team-leading 10th multi-hit game of the season. Ally Shipman scored in both of her at-bats, while six other Tide players earned a hit in the win. Three pitchers saw time in the circle, with Alex Salter (5-2) ultimately coming away with the win with just one run allowed on three hits and a walk over 4.0 relief innings.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I thought all three pitchers did really well. They all did their job. [Bailey] Dowling's double was huge too with two out and the bases loaded. Any time you can clear the bases with one swing, you'll take that all day. We needed that cushion."
