
Eight Alabama Swimming and Diving Members Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Kalia Antoniou, Cam Auerbach, Derek Maas, Jake Marcum, Kensey McMahon, Diana Petkova, Eric Stelmar and Cat Wright were selected for all-district honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eight members of Alabama's swimming and diving teams were named to the College Sports Communicators' Swimming and Diving Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
On the men's side, Cam Auerbach, Derek Maas, Jake Marcum and Eric Stelmar make up the list for the Crimson Tide, while Kalia Antoniou, Kensey McMahon, Diana Petkova and Cat Wright represent Alabama on the women's side.
The Crimson Tide Nominees
- All eight nominees have a GPA of 3.62 or higher with four holding a perfect 4.0
- Auerbach finds his name on the list as a current four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and a back-to-back CSCAA Scholar All-American. He was also a member of the 800 freestyle relay that won bronze after a school-record performance at the SEC Championships.
- So far this season, Maas has been named the SEC Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year, as well as being selected to the SEC Community Service Team. The swimmer is also a two-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American.
- Marcum recently finished 11th in the men's 200 backstroke at the SEC Championships and is also a previous CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American
- Stelmar rounds out the Crimson Tide's men's representatives, another CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American that recently finished 21st in the men's 100 backstroke at the SEC Championships.
- On the women's side, Antoniou makes the list as a recent silver (200 freestyle relay) and bronze medalist (50 freestyle) at the SEC Championships. The 2021 NCAA champion is also a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
- McMahon is coming off a gold-medal SEC Championships performance in the 1,650 freestyle. The three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American holds Alabama's sixth-fastest time in the 400 individual medley.
- Petkova was also a member of the silver-medal 200 freestyle relay squad. The 2021 Bulgarian Olympian is also a previous CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American.
- Wright recently became the first UA woman to break the 1:56.00 barrier – and broke the school record – in the 200 individual medley at the SEC Championships. She is also a two-time honorable mention CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Up next for the Alabama Swimming and Diving program is the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, March 5-8, in Knoxville, Tenn.
