Alabama’s Essence Cody Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama's Essence Cody was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Cody played a huge role in the Crimson Tide's success during the Betty Chancellor Classic, where the team picked up a pair of victories defeating then No. 20 Louisville (78-73) and Liberty (72-47).

Collected back-to-back double-digit games, including a career-high 13 points in the Tide's loss against Gonzaga (68-58) and 10 points during Alabama's 25-point victory over Liberty
Recorded the first career and team double-double of the year after scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against Gonzaga
Connected on 8-10 free throw attempts against Gonzaga
Averaged 8.6 ppg, 7.6 bpg and 1.3 bpg during the three-day tournament
Has started every game for Alabama and leads the team in rebounds (60) and blocks (10)
Averaging 8.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg and 0.9 spg this season
