Fans got their first look at the 2024 squad Friday evening as the Ghosts edged out the Goblins via a sudden death stick-off
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Fans got their first glimpse at the 2024 Alabama gymnastics squad Friday afternoon with the Crimson Tide's annual Halloween-themed intrasquad. Competing in front of a packed-out Frances Smith Practice Facility at Coleman Coliseum, the Ghosts edged out the Goblins via a sudden death stick-off to claim the victory.
The annual event gave the Crimson Tide its first chance to compete in front of a crowd this season, while fans got their first look at Alabama's talented freshmen class and a preview of what the returnees are working on for the upcoming year.
The Ghosts were led by super-senior duo Ella Burgess and Makarri Doggette, as Shania Adams, Gabby Ladanyi, Lillian Lewis, Jordyn Paradise, Natalia Pawlak and Rachel Rybicki rounded out the squad.
Super senior Mati Waligora led the Goblins, competing alongside Corinne Bunagan, Karis German, Gabby Gladieux, Lilly Hudson, Chloe LaCoursiere, Cameron Machado, Isabella Martin and Jamison Sears.
Graduate student Luisa Blanco is currently with the Colombian National Team in Santiago, Chile, and missed Alabama's intrasquad. The super-senior and NCAA champion is set to compete this weekend at the 2023 Pan American Games before returning to Tuscaloosa.
Alabama Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"Today was all about growth. The goal going into this meet always is to have fun, and with the help of all the excited fans in attendance, we definitely achieved that. As a staff, we really wanted to focus on progress, and this is a great starting point. I'm so pleased with how the team embraced that mindset, stayed in the moment, really performed and put on a fun night of gymnastics for our Tuscaloosa community."
