
Alabama School Record Falls on Opening Day of Bob Pollock Invitational

The Crimson Tide’s Chelsea Igberaese’s record-breaking throw also became a new facility record
CLEMSON, S.C. – On the opening day of the Bob Pollock Invitational, Alabama track and field's Chelsea Igberaese broke her own school record in the women's weight throw. Her 23.56-meter throw (77-3.75) also became a new facility record for Clemson's Rock Norman Track and Field complex.
On the men's side, Khaleb McRae's run of 46.13 in the men's 400-meter race not only earned him a second-place finish at the meet, but also moved him into a tie for fifth, nationally, per USTFCCCA rankings that came out prior to this weekend's meet.
After sweeping both weight throw event titles, the Crimson Tide ended with 14 top-five finishes on the opening day of the Clemson meet.
Crimson Tide Top Finishes
- Alabama opened the day with a third-place finish in the men's 60-meter final by Jekovan Rhetta (6.71)
- Bobby Colantonio Jr. (22.43m | 73-7) and Ruben Banks (21.62m | 70-11) went one-three in the men's weight throw
- On the women's side, the Crimson Tide went one-three-five in the women's weight throw after Igberaese's record-breaking performance. Taylor Gorrum (21.71m | 71-2.75) and Samantha Kunza (20.33m | 66-8.50) rounded out the Alabama trio
- Alabama went two-three-four in the men's 400m, as Khaleb McRae (46.13) is now tied for fifth in the nation while teammate Chris Robinson (46.40) now holds the ninth fastest time. Leander Forbes rounded out the trio, clocking 46.43
- Hillary Cheruiyot (4:02.73) and Victor Kiprop (4:02.73) each clocked a top-six time in the men's mile
- Amari Brown (women's 60m final | 7.42) and Chanice Spicer (women's 400m | 55.97) both recorded top-10 times in their respective events
- Victoria Faber finished fifth in the women's, seeded pole vault (4.21m | 13-9.75)
- Julian Collins finishes fourth in the men's long jump (7.41m | 24-3.75)
- Alabama's men's distance medley squad clocked a third-place finish of 9:57.65
