The Crimson Tide earned a season-best score which included a perfect 10.0 from Makarri Doggette
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 13 Alabama gymnastics team was edged out by the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats Friday night in Memorial Coliseum, 197.825-197.375. Despite earning a season-best score for the Crimson Tide, the Wildcats posted their top team score in program history to pull out the victory.
Alabama's total included its fifth-highest uneven bars score in program history, a 49.625, and its highest at an away meet during the regular season in program history.
Senior Makarri Doggette headlined the Tide's competition, scoring her second career perfect 10 on the uneven bars. It marked the first perfect score by an Alabama gymnast since both Doggette and Luisa Blanco accomplished the feat on April 2, 2021 at the NCAA Regional finals.
Following its 49.625 on the uneven bars, Alabama posted a 49.250 on the vault, again led by Doggette with a 9.925. Lilly Hudson (9.925) and Gabby Gladieux (9.900) led the Tide to a 49.275 on floor exercise to keep the meet close after three rotations. Blanco and Hudson posted matching totals of 9.950 on balance beam to close out the night for the Tide, finishing with a 49.225 rotation total on the event.
Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"I think tonight really showed how high our ceiling can be. We went big tonight and were able to respond well after little mistakes. The team really had each other's back. I was proud of the uneven bars rotation tonight, and felt like we had moments in every rotation that showcased how capable we are of those big scores. One of the focus points for us is for the team to find their edge. When you are finding your edge, there are times where you can go a little bit over or a little bit under. There is very little margin of error, but we are encouraging them all go for everything that they've got to give us the highest scoring potential possible, which is going to set us up for success at the end of the season."
