Three golfers shot under par to lead UA during Sunday’s third and final round
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Three Alabama women's golfers shot under par to lead the Crimson Tide's surge up the leaderboard in Sunday's final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, jumping four spots from 11th into seventh place with a season best round of 3-under par 285. Alabama improved its score across each day of the tournament, closing tournament play in seventh overall with a team total of 10-over par 874 (297-292-285).
Benedetta Moresco rallied from an opening round 75 to card back-to-back sub-par rounds of 2-under 70 Saturday and 1-under 71 Sunday to earn a 21st-place finish. Freshman Kynadie Adams also earned a season-best finish, tying for 28th overall at 3-over par 219 (71-74-74). Along with Moresco's 1-under score Sunday, Isabella van der Biest finished at 3-under 69 and Taylor Kehoe carded a 1-under 71 to give the Tide three golfers under par on the day.
No. 30 Mississippi State began the day in third place behind No. 26 Vanderbilt and No. 23 Arizona but shot a 281 on the final day to come from behind to win the team title, finishing at 19-under par 845 (284-280-281). Arizona finished four strokes back of the Bulldogs at 15-under 849, one stroke ahead of the Commodores. LSU finished at 3-under 861 in fourth place, followed by Auburn at 2-over 866 to round out the top five.
From Head Coach Mic Potter
"We are seeing gradual signs of improvement, but still have a long way to go to reach the performance level that we are capable of. We eliminated most of the three putts that had plagued us the first two days and got the ball up and in at a much higher percentage today. Converting putts was the difference between posting a subpar team score today and the over par rounds that we counted on Friday and Saturday."
