Canon Claycomb leads the charge as he won medalist honors for the second time in his career after carding an 11-under par 205
DURHAM, N.C. – Alabama men's golfer Canon Claycomb claimed medalist honors to lead the Alabama men's golf team to its first team championship in two years as it captured the Rod Myers Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide finished the two-day 54-hole event with a team total of 13-under par 851 (289-281-281), 11 strokes better than the next closest team.
Claycomb was spectacular throughout the weekend, as he finished the event at 11-under par 205 (69-71-65) which included a 7-under par 65 – one stroke off his career-low round. Teammates Thomas Ponder (-5, 211) and Nick Dunlap (-4, 212) were just behind Claycomb to five the Crimson Tide the top-three spots in the field.
The last time Alabama won a team title came on Oct. 7, 2020 when it captured The Blessings Invitational. Meanwhile, Claycomb won his second medalist honor after capturing the Watersound Invitational a year ago.

From Canon Claycomb
"Winning is always awesome. I am especially proud of how I competed on the back nine today. I was frustrated the first two-and-a-half rounds because I was hitting it great but felt like I wasn't making any putts. I kept telling myself they would go in eventually and they did. I've worked really hard the past year and I'm starting to see the results, but am excited to continue working harder so that I can have this feeling more and more.
"As for the team I am so proud of these guys. They are my family and I treat them as such, I would die for them and to finally get a win validates the feelings and validates why we wake up at dawn and work until dark. I haven't been a part of a team win since I've been at school, so this is something I've been waiting on and it feels even better than the individual win. Bottom line I'm super proud of my guys, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world."
