
Alabama’s Kensey McMahon Takes Bronze on Day One of the USA Swimming National Championships

Coming off a stint with Team USA at the World Open Water Championships, McMahon took third-place on the first day of the championships
IRVINE, Calif – Alabama distance ace Kensey McMahon opened the USA Swimming National Championships, being held in Irvine, Calif., this week, with a bronze-medal showing in the 800-meter freestyle.
McMahon, who competed as part of Team USA in the 25-kilometer race at the World Open Water Championships last month, clocked an 8:31.92 to earn the bronze. McMahon finished less than a second out of the silver, while U.S. Olympian Katie Ledecky took top honors for the gold.
Alabama returns to action on Wednesday with swims in the 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke. Prelims start at 9 a.m. PT, while finals get underway at 5 p.m. PT.
