
Crimson Tide Track and Field Advances Two to the World Championships Men’s 400-meter Final

Champion Allison (USA) and Kirani James (Grenada) both won their heats of the 400-meter semifinals to advance to the medal round
EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama track and field alums Champion Allison (USA) and Kirani James (Grenada) advanced to the finals of the men's 400 meters on day six of the World Championships being held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Allison won heat three with a time of 44.71, while James won the second semifinal with a time of 44.74. James won his heat by two-tenths of a second, while Allison's victory came by four-hundredths of a second. Allison was third and James fourth overall coming out of the semifinals.
Alabama Results at the World Championships
- Champion Allison (USA) won the fifth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 45.56, ranking him seventh coming out of heats and advancing him to the semfinals, where he won the third heat with a time of 44.71, advancing him to the finals
- Kirani James (Grenada) took second in the sixth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries and third overall with a time of 45.29, advancing him to the semifinals, where he won the second heat with a 44.74, earning a spot in the finals
- Tamara Clark (USA) won the fourth heat and ranked fifth overall with a 22.27 coming out of prelims of the women's 200 meters, before winning the second semifinal with a 21.95, advancing to the final as the third overall seed coming out of the semis
- Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) won the second heat of the men's 200 meters with a 20.35 to advance to the semifinals, before going 19.86 to finish third in the second semifinal and fourth overall earning a spot in the finals
- Tarsis Orogot, the first Ugandan man in history to run the 200 meters at the World Championships, ran a 20.44 in the fourth heat to advance to the semifinals where he ran a 20.35 to take 13th overall on the night
- Shelby McEwen (USA) tied for ninth in the prelims of the men's high jump with a leap of 2.28 meters, before jumping 2.30 meters in the finals to take fifth place
- Olivia Fotopoulou posted a top-30 finish in the women's 200 meters, posting a 23.25 to take 27th overall
- Natassha McDonald (Canada) posted a top-30 finish in the women's 400 meters at the World Championships, taking 28th with a time of 52.41
- Daniel Haugh (USA) finished second in the prelims of the men's hammer throw with a toss of 79.34 meters, advancing him to finals, before taking eighth in finals with a toss of 78.10 meters
- Portious Warren (Trinidad and Tobago) took 25th in the women's shot put with a best toss of 16.65 meters
Crimson Tide Action on Day Seven (Thursday)
- Tamara Clark will run the final of the women's 200 meters starting at 7:30 p.m. PT
- Jereem Richards races in the men's 200-meter final, which gets underway at 7:45 p.m. PT
