Crimson Tide Track and Field World Championships Contingent Jumps to 14

With five Alabama grads representing the United States, nine more are slated to represent an array of other countries at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Ore.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After announcing five Alabama graduates who will compete at the upcoming World Championships as part of Team USA, nine past and present members of the Alabama track and field family are slated to compete for their respective countries, boosting the UA contingent to 14.
The 2022 World Athletics Championships will be held July 14-24 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., site of the 2022 NCAA Championships where the Crimson Tide men and women both posted top-15 national finishes.
Tarsis Orogot, who earned All-America honors as a rookie in 2022, will compete in the sprints for Uganda. NCAA champion and three-time Olympic medalist Kirani James, along with fellow Crimson Tide All-Americans and Olympians Alex Amankwah (Ghana), Remona Burchell (Jamaica), Natassha McDonald (Canada), Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) and Portious Warren (Trinidad and Tobago) are also set to compete in Eugene.
Other Alabama track and field alums slated to compete at the World Championships include Olivia Fotopoulou (Cyprus) and Filippa Fotopoulou (Cyprus).

The Crimson Tide on the U.S. World Championships Team
- In addition to the nine past and present international student-athletes competing at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, five Crimson Tide graduates earned spots on Team USA's squad
- Tokyo Olympians Quanesha Burks, Shelby McEwen and Daniel Haugh all won individual titles at the U.S. Championships to earn their way to the World Championships
- Burks won the long jump with a leap of 7.06 meters on her first attempt to make her the only woman over seven meters at the championships
- McEwen was the only athlete to clear 2.33 meters in Eugene, giving him the U.S. high jump title and a spot at Worlds
- Haugh posted a personal best of 80.18 meters in the hammer throw to earn his spot on Team USA, making him the only athlete in the competition over 79 meters
- In addition to the Tide's three champions, Tamara Clark and Champion Allison both earned silver medals at the U.S. Championships
- Clark took second in the 200 meters with a PR of 21.92, and fifth in the 100 meters with a PR of 10.88 to punch her ticket to Worlds
- Allison took second in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 43.70 to earn his way back to Eugene
