Swimmers Derek Maas and Nicholas Perera both earned a place on the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large First Team for the second year in a row
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's swimming and diving team leads the nation with two swimmers on the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors Association announced Tuesday.
Swimmers Derek Maas and Nicholas Perera earned spots on the at-large first team for the second year in a row, making the Crimson Tide the only school with multiple first-team honorees this year.
Unlike the other Academic All-America teams which represent a single sport, the at-large program spans several men's sports, including fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, volleyball and wrestling.
Maas, an All-American, SEC Champion and SEC record holder, graduated with a 4.0 grade point average in biology on the premed track and is currently pursuing an MBA. Perera, an All-American, graduated in May with a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering.
The women's at-large team will be announced on Wednesday.
