The Crimson Tide tallies just two hits in its first Regional loss since 2007

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball took its first loss in NCAA Regional play since 2007, falling 6-0 to Stanford in Saturday's opening game at the Tuscaloosa Regional.

Alabama (42-12) mustered just two hits while Stanford (38-19) posted an early three-spot in the first inning before tacking on two more in the fifth and another in the seventh. The loss snaps a 44-game winning streak for the Crimson Tide in NCAA Regional play, with its last loss in Regional play coming on May 18, 2007 to Tennessee Tech.

With the loss, Alabama will have to play in an elimination game later tonight against the winner of the Murray State vs. Chattanooga game.

Stanford started things quickly in the top of the first, with a leadoff triple followed by an RBI fielder's choice to make it 1-0. After loading the bases with still nobody out, a walk brought in another run and a sac fly made it 3-0 before an out at home and a groundout ended the frame. Stanford added two more in the fifth on an RBI single and a fielder's choice RBI and then another in the seventh inning to make it a 6-0 game, which ultimately proved final.
