Alabama Gymnastics Celebrates 2022 Season with Year-End Awards

The Crimson Tide handed out its annual awards during a team gathering Sunday evening
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 2022 Alabama gymnastics team celebrated its season Sunday night during a team gathering.
The last award of the evening and the highest honor bestowed upon an Alabama gymnast each season, The Lewis Each Courage Award, went to Sania Mitchell. The senior leader and floor exercise standout had her season cut short following and injury prior to the Southeastern Conference Championships.
Other awards included:
- Team Captains: Emily Gaskins and Ella Burgess
- Dana Dobransky Dedication to Excellence: Griffin James
- David Dutton Memorial Award: Director of Operations Robin Kelley
- David Desantis Community Service Award: Griffin James
- Newcomer of the Year: Lilly Hudson
- Fern Hampton Academic Award: Mati Waligora
- David Patterson Work Ethic Award: Cameron Machado and Kaylee Quinn
- Penney Hauschild Award: Shallon Olsen
The Crimson Tide finished seventh nationally, making Alabama one of just two schools NCAA gymnastics history, along with Utah, to never finish out of the top 12 nationally. Alabama also finished second at the SEC Championships, continuing its streak as the only school to never finish outside the top four in the conference championships. The team posted a trio of 198 team scores during the season, including a 197.175 at the NCAA Seattle Regional Championships, the highest postseason score in program history and the second best overall.
