
Alabama Drops 5-2 at No. 11 Georgia, Will Face Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament

The Crimson Tide opens the SEC Tournament against 12th-seeded Vanderbilt on Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT
ATHENS, Ga. –– Enzo Aguiard led the Alabama men's tennis team in its final match of the regular season Sunday, as the Crimson Tide fell 5-2 to the No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Alabama saw wins from two doubles teams with Aguiard and Juan Martin taking a 6-4 victory on court two and Filip Planinsek and Patrick Kaukovalta going 7-6 (8) on court one. In singles, Aguiard recorded his second win of the day, fighting to take mirroring 7-5 first and second set decisions for a win on court three.
UA enters the Southeastern Conference Tournament as the 13th seed and will play 12th-seeded Vanderbilt at 10 a.m. CT at Georgia's Magill Tennis Complex. Alabama concludes the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and a 0-12 record in SEC play, while Georgia finished with a 17-6 record on the year and 9-3 record in conference action.
The Match
- Aguiard and Martin took an impressive 6-4 victory on court two against UGA's 27th-ranked doubles team, Trent Bryde and Philip Henning, but Georgia secured a 7-3 win in a tiebreaker on court three to even doubles play
- The UA duo of Planinsek and Kaukovalta emerged from a 6-6 tie against 63rd ranked Tristan McCormick and Hamish Stewart on court one with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker to give Alabama the doubles point
- Georgia, however, would take wins on singles courts four, five, six and two, to secure the team victory
- Aguaird posted the Tide's lone singles win, upsetting 79th ranked Tristan McCormick 7-5, 7-5 on court three
- Planinsek and Kaukovalta would both force a second-set tiebreaker, as 36th-ranked Planinsek fell to 14th-ranked Stewart 6-4, 7-6 (4) at No. 1 singles and Kaukovalta fell 6-1, 7-6 (2) to 47th ranked Philip Henning at No. 2 singles
