BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –– Alabama's Patrick Kaukovalta was selected for the Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
A leader both on and off the court, Kaukovalta has given back to the community during his four years at Alabama. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Halloween Extravaganza and Project Angel Tree. In addition to his time volunteering, Kaukovalta was part of a Student-Athlete Advisory Board initiative that sent letters of appreciation to Alabama staff during the pandemic. He is also a former SAAC representative, serving with the organization for two years.
The lone senior on the team and one of two upperclassmen, joining graduate transfer Juan Martin, Kaukovalta has served as a leader for the Crimson Tide during the 2021-22 season. Despite missing some matches due to an injury, Kaukovalta has battled back to regain his starting role. While playing No. 1 doubles, he has put together a 6-2 record on his way to a 13-7 overall record on the year.
Kaukovalta advanced to the finals at the 2019 NCAA Doubles National Championships, making history as he and partner Mazen Osama became the first Alabama players to reach the national championship match. The duo finished as the national runner-up and earned All-America honors for the feat, ending the season with the highest doubles ranking in program history at No. 4. Kaukovalta qualified for his second NCAA Championships in doubles during the 2021 season, winning 16 doubles matches that year with 11 victories coming in dual match play. He led the team in doubles wins during the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons. The Espoo, Finland, native is a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and two-time SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll player.
Kaukovalta and the Crimson Tide men's tennis team closes the regular season on the road this weekend, playing Tennessee at 3 p.m. CT Friday at the Barksdale Stadium and Georgia at 12 p.m. CT Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
