The Crimson Tide sophomore spent over 26 hours helping at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –– Alabama's Loudmilla Bencheikh was named to the Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Bencheikh led the team in the fall, volunteering over 26 hours at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. In addition to her time at the shelter, she also fostered a cat during the semester. Additionally, Bencheikh dedicated time to working with DCH Healthcare and with the Alabama's Adapted Athletics Tennis Tournament.
The Angresse, France, native paced the Tide on the court last fall, qualifying for the ITA National Fall Championships with doubles partner Anne Marie Hiser. The duo were the first UA doubles pair to earn a berth to national tournament since 2016 and were the first doubles team to win the ITA Southern Regional Championships in five years. Bencheikh and Hiser went undefeated in the doubles draw at the ITA Southern Regional Tournament, upsetting four-seeded teams on their way to the crown. Bencheikh has played at the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles positions this dual season with a 12-7 and 11-9 record, respectively.
Bencheikh and the Crimson Tide women's tennis team close the regular season this weekend, hosting Georgia at 5 p.m. CT Friday and Tennessee at 1 p.m. CT Sunday. Both matches will be played at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
