
Crimson Tide Women’s Basketball, Green Wave Rematch Monday in WNIT Round 2

Alabama will face Tulane for the second time this season, this time in rival territory
NEW ORLEANS - The University of Alabama women's basketball team will face Tulane for the second time this season, when the two teams square off at the 2022 Women's National Invitation Tournament Round 2 Monday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, La. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3, with Jack Benjamin and Tiffany Aidoo on the call.

The Crimson Tide is 18-13 this season, including 6-10 in the Southeastern Conference and 5-5 in road games. The Tide has won six of its last eight games, including four of its last five games. During its last eight games, the Tide boasted a pair of Associated Press Top 25 wins.
Alabama is coming off a 2-1 record at the 2022 SEC Tournament, becoming one of just three teams to win at least two games at the event, joining the company of SEC Regular Season Champions South Carolina and SEC Tournament Champions Kentucky.
In the Crimson Tide's last appearance, it defeated the Troy Trojans, Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Champions, 82-79, in Troy, Ala., March 17. The Crimson Tide battled back from a 10-point deficit in the first quarter to eventually earn a 12-point lead in the third quarter, knocking off the Trojans in the WNIT Round 1. Jada Rice had a dominant presence on the interior, recording 15 points and 15 rebounds for just her second double-double of the season.
Brittany Davis has led Alabama in scoring all season, averaging 17.3 points per game. Despite overcoming health challenges to start conference action, Megan Abrams has rediscovered her groove, tacking on 15.0 points per game, while JaMya Mingo-Young adds 11.2 points per game. Davis (7.0) and Mingo-Young (6.9) pace the Crimson Tide in rebounds.
Alabama and Tulane met earlier this season, as the Green Wave defeated the Crimson Tide, 69-66, in Coleman Coliseum Nov. 14. Alabama led Tulane after the first quarter, 26-14, however the Wave outscored the Tide, 55-40, the rest of the time. The Tide shot 33.9 percent from the field on 21-of-62 shooting, while the group fired off 12 3-pointers, including the first three scores of the game.

The Trojans' lead would last just 10 minutes though, as the Crimson Tide grabbed the steering wheel in the second quarter after 52.0 percent shooting in that period. Troy attempted to regain control down the stretch thanks to a 13-2 run in the final minutes, but Abrams knocked down a pair of free throws under 20 seconds to help Alabama remain on top until the end of regulation, 82-79.
Alabama's History in the WNIT
- The WNIT appearance is the Crimson Tide's eighth in program history and fourth under head coach Kristy Curry, while the Round 2 matchup marks the Tide's 19th game in the tournament.
- In its most recent appearance in the tournament, Alabama won three straight games at home, before losing to Virginia Tech, 74-67, in the quarterfinals in Blacksburg, Va., on March 24, 2018.
