Alabama’s Canon Claycomb Named SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week

The junior earned his first career medalist honors at the Watersound Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Canon Claycomb was chosen as the SEC Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Claycomb earned medalist honors at the Watersound Invitational, leading the tournament wire-to-wire.
Claycomb recorded three consecutive rounds in the 60s (67-66-69) to capture an eight-stroke victory with a 14-under par 202 on the par 72, 7,020-yard Shark's Golf Course. It was the first medalist honor and first top-five finish of his career.
The 72-person individual tournament field included 18 of the nation's top 100 golfers, according to Golfstat.com.

Claycomb's performance helped the Crimson Tide finish runner-up at the tournament, with a team total of 10-under par 854 (296-276-282). The Bowling Green, Ky., native led the field by going 11-under par on par 5 holes (4.08 stroke average), while his 17 birdies were the most by any golfer across the event.
This marks his second weekly award, as Claycomb earned the SEC Freshman of the Week on March 4, 2020.

Alabama will continue its spring campaign this Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 27- March 1, at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
