
Alabama Track and Field Closes Indoor Regular-Season with Another School Record

Rookie Hillary Cheruiyot broke Crimson Tide legend David Kimani’s 2001 record with a time of 7:48.74
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field closed out the last weekend of the indoor regular season with a strong showings at the Music City Challenge and the Tyson Invitational, including breaking yet another school record.
In just his second collegiate 3,000-meter races, freshman Hillary Cheruiyot became the first member of the Alabama men's team to go under 7:50.00, breaking Crimson Tide legend's David Kimani's 2001 school record with a time of 7:48.74 at the Music City Challenge.
Alabama also picked up wins in the men's shot put (Isaac Odugbesan) and men's triple jump (Emmanuel Ineh) at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday.
Saturday Highlights
- Isaac Odugbesan won the Tyson Invitational men's shot put with a toss of 66-9 ¾
- Emmanuel Ineh took top honors in the Tyson Invitational triple jump with a career-best leap of 53-3 ½, which ranks him seventh all-time at UA
- Nickolette Dunbar took second in the Tyson Invitational shot put with a career-best mark of 16.72 meters, which ranks her fourth all-time at UA
- A day after bettering his own school record in the mile, Eliud Kipsang posted a career-best mark to take third in the Music City Challenge 3,000 meters, going a 7:53.19, which ranks him fourth all-time at Alabama
- Chago Basso went a career-best throw of 63-5 in the Tyson Invitational shot put, tying him for fourth all-time at UA
- Louis Martinez cleared a career-best 5.25 meters in the Tyson Invitational pole vault, tying him for fourth all-time at UA
- Alan de Falchi posted a career-best toss of 60-6 ¾ in the Tyson Invitational shot put, ranking him eighth all-time at UA
- Jace Jones took third in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:51.42 at the Music City Challenge
- Gabe Serrano, Leander Forbes, Corde Long and Khaleb McRae combined to post a 3:05.75 in the 4x400m relay at the Tyson Invitational, which ranks third all-time at UA
- Amara Obi, Amari Brown, Na'Taja Ballard and Chanice Spicer clocked a 3:36.38 at the Tyson Invitational, ranking the foursome ninth all-time for the Tide
