Alabama Softball Continues Fall Shutout Streak with Two Wins Saturday

The Crimson Tide defeats Wallace State, 6-0, and Birmingham Southern, 10-0
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball stretched its fall shutout streak to six straight games with a pair of wins Saturday over Wallace State, 6-0, and Birmingham Southern, 10-0, at Rhoads Stadium.
All four pitchers saw time in the circle on the day, allowing a combined three hits and one walk over 14.0 innings pitched. Throwing 4.0 innings in relief in game one, Montana Fouts struck out nine of the 14 batters she faced. Offensively, Larissa Preuitt led the way with a 3-for-3 day including a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Aubrey Barnhart and and Kali Heivilin also had three RBIs on the day and Jordan Stephens was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
In game one, the Crimson Tide got the scoring started with a Bailey Dowling RBI single and a two-run single from Heivilin to make it 3-0 in the second inning. Dowling added another RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the third and a two-run double from Barnhart in the fourth would bring the score to its final tally of 6-0. Alabama broke game two wide open with an eight-spot in the first inning, with five of those runs coming with two outs. The score remained 8-0 until the fifth inning, when Marlie Giles scored on a fielding error and Preuitt drove in a run on a sac fly RBI to make it 10-0, which proved final.
Highlights
- Jaala Torrence and Montana Fouts combined for a complete-game shutout in game one with just two hits allowed, while Fouts struck out nine of the 14 batters she faced
- Lauren Esman and Alex Salter were perfect through 7.0 combined innings in the circle before Birmingham Southern broke through with its lone hit of the game after starting to play an extra inning afterwards
- Aubrey Barnhart, Larissa Preuitt and Kali Heivilin led the team with three RBIs each on the day, hitting a combined 6-for-12
- In addition to Barnhart, Preuitt and Heivilin, three other Tide players had an extra-base hit: Esman (2B), Jordan Stephens (2B) and KJ Haney (2B)
