TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Fans got their first glimpse at the 2022-23 Alabama gymnastics team Friday afternoon with the Crimson Tide's annual Halloween-themed intrasquad. Competing in front of a packed-out Frances Smith Practice facility at Coleman Coliseum, the Ghosts edged out the Goblins for the victory.
The annual event gave the Crimson Tide a chance to compete in front of a crowd for the first time this season, while fans got their first look at Alabama's talented freshman class and a preview of what the returnees are working on for the upcoming season.
The Ghosts were led by senior Luisa Blanco, who competed on all four events in the intrasquad. Alongside Blanco, Team Ghost consisted of Corinne Bunagan, Ella Burgess, Lillian Lewis, Lauren Little, Cameron Machado, Sania Mitchell, Jordyn Paradise and Rachel Rybicki.
Senior Makarri Doggette led the Goblins, competing alongside Shania Adams, Gabby Gladieux, Karis German, Zoe Gravier, Lilly Hudson, Isabella Martin and Mati Waligora.
Graduate student Shallon Olsen is with the Canadian World Championship team in the United Kingdom and missed Alabama's intrasquad. The two-time Olympian is set to compete Oct. 29-Nov. 3 before returning to Tuscaloosa for the rest of the semester.
HEAD COACH ASHLEY JOHNSTON SAID
"Today was all about growth. The goal was to have fun and go big. I'm excited that the team embraced that mindset, stayed in the process and let the gymnastics happen. Every athlete grew in their confidence and self-belief today, and for that I am especially proud."
