Alabama Men’s Tennis’ Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster Crowned Champions at Alabama Four-In-The-Fall Tournament

Competing as a pair, Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster went undefeated on Sunday, winning both singles matches and the doubles match to clinch the title
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis players Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster concluded the Alabama Four-In-The-Fall as the tournament champions on Sunday, winning the doubles match and both singles matches on their way to victory.
The winning duo of Ferreira and Foster started the day with a victory in doubles, beating Sam Scherer and Benji Jacobson of Tulane 6-3. The UA pair followed with wins in singles action as both players won their respective matchup. Foster battled it out for a win against Jacobson, 7-6 (5), 6-1, to record the deciding team point and secure the tournament win. Ferreira finished things off with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Scherer.
Players compete in the tournament as a doubles pair. Teams advance by winning two of three matches, either from one doubles and two singles matches, played against an opposing pair of players.
Although Enzo Aguiard and Roan Jones fell in doubles to Miguel Perez Pena and Thomas Paulsell from Georgia, the pair rallied in their singles matches. Aguiard beat Pena 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and Jones won against Georgia's Britton Johnston in a straight set 6-1, 6-4 victory. Sunday's win was Jones' sixth consecutive as the UA freshman remains undefeated in singles to start the year.
UA will return to action Monday as German Samofalov opens competition in the singles qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Filip Planinsek plays in the main draw beginning on Wednesday.
