Alabama Swimming and Diving Sweeps South Carolina in Home Opener

The Crimson Tide men downed the Gamecocks 179-116, while the women came out on top 190.5-109.5
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept the South Carolina Gamecocks to open the Crimson Tide home schedule Saturday morning at the Alabama Aquatic Center.
The Alabama women won 190.5-109.5 while the men outscored the Gamecocks 179-116. The women won both relays and 10 individual events, while the men also won both relays to go with nine individual races. Â

"That was a great way to open our home schedule. Both our men and women had some challenges this week, but we came out with a lot of spirit and got the job done. We had some strong performances from our rookies and veterans alike and that carried us through. Now we have to get back to work, get ready for LSU and keep moving forward."
Alabama Wins - Men
- Alabama opened the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay with Matt Menke, Derek Maas, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida and Tim Korstanje getting the win with a 1:26.59
- Menke, Korstanje, Kacper Piotrowski and Kaique Alves closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, going 2:55.93
- Korstanje clocked a 20.37 in the 50 freestyle to earn his first individual win for the Tide
- Maas went 53.52 to win the 100 breaststroke and a 1:47.50 to win the 200 individual medley
- Menke won the 100 backstroke by two seconds, going 46.68 while Bondra de Almeida won the 100 butterfly after clocking a 47.79
- Alves won the 200 freestyle with a 1:36.08 before leading a 1-5 Tide sweep of the 100 freestyle, going 43.86
- Michael Deans went 2:02.11 to take top honors in the 200 breaststroke
- Eric Stelmar gets the men's 200 back win with a 1:46.73
Alabama Wins - Women
- Rhyan White, Avery Wiseman, Morgan Scott and Kalia Antoniou opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, going 1:38.24 to finish more than three seconds ahead of second place
- Antoniou, Cora Dupre, Diana Petkova and Kailyn Winter combined to win the 400 free relay with a 3:21.43, closing out the meet and the Gamecocks
- White won the 100 backstroke (52.89) and 100 butterfly (53.95)
- Scott won the 200 individual medley (2:01.78) and 100 freestyle (49.95) while Antoniou went 22.55 to win the 50 freestyle
- Lockett Bowley got her first Crimson Tide win, going 2:01.01 to take top honors in the 200 butterfly
- Avery Wiseman won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:01.63 while Cat Wright touched the wall first with a 2:14.90 to win the 200 breaststroke
- Kensey McMahon notched a 29-second win in the 1,000 freestyle, going 9:47.89, and an eight-second victory in the 500 freestyle with a 4:50.81
