Crimson Tide pitchers throw a combined 14.0 shutout innings against the Yellow Jackets
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball posted a pair of shutouts Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium against Georgia Tech, blanking the Yellow Jackets 1-0 and 4-0.
Alabama won a low-scoring game one, with a first inning solo home run from Ally Shipman proving enough in the 1-0 victory. Lauren Esman went the distance in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout with just two hits allowed, including stranding the potential tying run at third base in the top of the seventh.
The Crimson Tide got the scoring started in game two with a hard-hit RBI single from Kali Heivilin in the second inning that bounced off the right field wall. Later that inning with Larissa Preuitt at third, the freshman broke home on the pitch scoring on the RBI groundout to make it 2-0. Fellow freshman Abby Duchscherer tacked on another run in the third with an RBI triple down the left field line before scoring in the next at-bat on a sac fly from Shipman. The four runs were more than enough to back up a combined shutout in the circle from Jaala Torrence and Alex Salter, allowing two hits with six strikeouts.
