
Alabama’s Kevin Li Earns 1-meter Win on Day Two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational

The senior All-American used a season-best mark to come away with the Crimson Tide’s first title of the four-day event
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama's Kevin Li used a season-best score to win the 1-meter springboard on day two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn. His win was one of five top-12 finishes for the Crimson Tide on the day.
Li took the win after totaling 366.25 points in the 1-meter finals, moving up nine spots from his 10th-place prelims finish, where he scored 291.20 points. Mohamed Farouk finished fourth off the 1-meter board after scoring 332.45 points in the finals, moving up two spots from prelims where he was sixth with 320.00 points.
Tanesha Lucoe posted her second bronze-medal finish of the meet, taking third in the finals of the 3-meter springboard with a score 298.75. Lucoe moved up four places in finals after finishing seventh with 277.80 points in prelims. Natalie Donkle and Halia Bower also made the finals of the 3-meter board, with Donkle taking sixth with a score of 281.95, while Bower was 11th after tallying 252.20 points. Donkle's 281.95 in finals was a season-best mark.
The Tennessee Invitational Format
- In additional to the traditional 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events and the platform, the meet will also feature a new team-style event
- For the team events, two or three divers from each squad will perform a combined six dives (two or three dives by each diver) to make up a team score
- Teams must have at least one dive from the 1-meter, 3-meter and the platform
- In the springboard events (1-meter and 3-meter) the top-12 performers will advance to the finals
Tennessee Diving Invitational Field and Schedule
- In addition to Alabama and the homestanding Volunteers, this week's field includes Auburn, Georgia, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, South Carolina and Wisconsin
- Competition will begin each day at 11 a.m. CT
- Wednesday includes the men's 3-meter prelims and finals, the women's platform and the women's team event, which gets underway at 3 p.m. CT
- The meet concludes Thursday with the men's platform event
Crimson Tide Divers
- Alabama's women are led off the 1-meter springboard (283.43) and platform (276.00) by All-American and two-time Southeastern Conference medalist Tanesha Lucoe
- Halia Bower leads the Crimson Tide women off the 3-meter board (318.75)
- Lucoe has qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships off the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, while Bower has qualified off the 1-meter and 3-meter
- The men are led by rookie Mohamed Farouk, who competed at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in mid-December, finaling off the platform and taking ninth overall, off the 1-meter (376.50) and platform (359.20), both at the Tennessee Invitational in November
- All-American Kevin Li leads the Tide off the 3-meter (363.90) at the Auburn Diving Invitational in December
- Farouk has already qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships off the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, while Li and Hunter Jaynes have qualified off the 1-meter and 3-meter boards
