Alabama Swimming and Diving Trio Earn SEC Weekly Honors

Derek Maas, Rhyan White and Avery Wiseman all earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors following the Crimson Tide’s final dual meet of the season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A trio of Alabama swimmers earned Southeastern Conference honors the league office announced Tuesday. Derek Maas and Rhyan White were named the Men's and Women's SEC Swimmer of the Week, respectively, while Avery Wiseman was named the Women's SEC Freshman of the Week.
Maas and White both won four events against Auburn last Friday, while Wiseman won a trio of events against the Tigers. Wiseman's honor was her third freshman of the week recognition of the season.
Derek Maas, Men's SEC Swimmer of the Week
- Won every event he entered against Auburn
- Swam the breaststroke leg on the Tide's winning 200 medley relay
- Won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley against the Tigers
- Heading into the postseason, Maas is ranked seventh nationally in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke
- Ranked first in the SEC in the 200 breaststroke, second in the 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 individual medley and eighth in the 100 butterfly
Rhyan White, Women's SEC Swimmer of the Week
- Led Alabama to a decisive win over Auburn in the Crimson Tide's last dual meet of the season
- Won all four events she entered
- Led off Alabama's winning 200 medley relay and picked up individual wins in the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly
- Heading into the postseason, White is ranked second nationally in both the 100 and 200 backstroke
- The 2021 World Champion in the 200-meter backstroke, White is ranked No. 1 in the SEC in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke
Avery Wiseman, Women's SEC Swimming and Diving Freshman of the Week
- Once again swept the breaststroke events, winning two individual events and helping Alabama nab the 200 medley relay title against Auburn
- Ranked third in the nation in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke
- Top-ranked freshman in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke
- Only freshman ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 200 breaststroke and the only rookie in the top-nine in the 100 breaststroke
