TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's cross country team is ranked seventh in the preseason edition of the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Coaches Poll for the 2021 campaign, which was released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
This year marks the first time the Crimson Tide women have figured in the preseason poll since debuting at No. 20 in 1995. Alabama did receive votes prior to the 2015 season. The Tide's seventh-place ranking also stands as its highest spot in the coaches poll. The Tide women finished 1987 in sixth and last season in eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Additionally, the Tide women are No. 1 in the South Region rankings and No. 2 in the Southeastern Conference preseason polls.
Alabama men and women open the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Memphis Twilight in Memphis, Tenn.
