BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Alabama gymnastics was named a 2021 Scholastic All-America team and saw 14 gymnasts earn individual Scholastic All-America honors, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) revealed this week.
The Crimson Tide, which finished fifth in the nation last season, was one of just four teams to advance to the 2021 NCAA Championships Semifinals to also post a team grade point average of 3.6-or-better, earning a 3.61, marking the 16th year in a row that Crimson Tide gymnastics has posted a team GPA of 3.4 or better.
The Tide's 2021 Scholastic All-Americans include NCAA Champions Luisa Blanco and Lexi Graber, All-Americans Makarri Doggette and Shallon Olsen as well as Shania Adams, Ella Burgess, Sarah Duhe, Jensie Givens, Griffin James, Bailie Key, Alonza Klopfer, Cam Machado, Isabella Martin and Mati Waligora.
The Tide's 14 Scholastic All-Americans is the fourth-highest total in school history, behind a school-record 19 in 2017, 16 in 2019 and 15 in 2020. Alabama has posted double digit honors the last 11 years in a row and 15 times since 1999. Overall, 115 Tide gymnasts have earned Scholastic All-America recognition 304 times since the award's inception in 1991.
To be a Scholastic All-American, a gymnast must have a 3.5 or better GPA either for the previous academic year or for their career. The team GPA and the individual awards factor in any gymnast on the Tide's eligibility roster as of January 1 of the season, including medical redshirts. A total of 62 Tide gymnasts have earned 143 Scholastic All-America honors over the last nine years.
