
Alabama Gymnastics Celebrates 2021 with Year-End Awards

The Crimson Tide won its 10th SEC Championship and 30th top-five national finish
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 2021 Alabama gymnastics team capped its Southeastern Conference Championship season by handing out year-end awards.
The Lewis Each Courage Award, the highest honor bestowed upon an Alabama gymnast each season, went to Ella Burgess. After an injury cut short her sophomore season, the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native kept a positive, team-first spirit throughout, encouraging and bolstering her team to a championship season, leading her teammates to honor her with the Each Award.
Other awards included:
- Team Captain: Alonza Klopfer
- Dana Dobransky Commitment to Excellence Award: Alonza Klopfer and Lexi Graber
- David Dutton Memorial Award: Aja Sims
- David Desantis Community Service Award: Jensie Givens
- Newcomers of the Year: Shania Adams and Kaylee Quinn
- Comeback Award: Mati Waligora
- Fern Hampton Academic Award: Alonza Klopfer
- David Patterson Work Ethic Award: Sania Mitchell
The Crimson Tide finished the season in fifth place at the NCAA Championships, marking the 40th season in a row that Alabama has finished among the top-12 teams nationally, and remains the only team in league history to never finish outside the top four at the SEC Championships.
