Alabama Gymnastics Coaches Earn WCGA Region 1 Honors for Second Year in a Row

For the second-consecutive year, Dana Duckworth was named Region 1 Head Coach of the Year, while Bill Lorenz and Ryan Roberts were voted Assistant Coaches of the Year
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Alabama gymnastics swept the coaching awards for Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Region 1 for the second year in a row, it was announced Thursday.
Dana Duckworth, in her seventh year as the Crimson Tide's mentor, was named the region's Head Coach of the Year in a season that saw Alabama win its 10th Southeastern Conference Championship and advance to the NCAA Championships final site for the 37th time.
Bill Lorenz, in his seventh season with the Tide, and Ryan Roberts, in his third, were named Region 1 Assistant Coaches of the Year.
Earlier in the week, Alabama's Luisa Blanco was named Region 1 Gymnast of the Year. The sophomore posted the top all-around score of any of the four regional sites with a 39.800 and the first 10.0 of her career on the balance beam. Her regional performance followed an SEC Championships where she won four of five individual events to lead the Tide to its 10th conference title with a 197.875 team score.
Alabama will compete in the NCAA Championships Semifinals on Friday, April 16 at 5 p.m. CT in Ft. Worth, Texas in Dickies Arena.
