
Alabama’s Luisa Blanco Voted WCGA Region 1 Gymnast of the Year

The top scorer in the all-around at any of the four regionals in 2021, she was voted the gymnast of the year by WCGA coaches association
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Alabama's Luisa Blanco was voted the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Region 1 Gymnast of the Year by the coaches association, the WCGA announced Tuesday.
Blanco's honor marks the ninth time a Crimson Tide gymnast has earned Regional Gymnast of the Year honors and the first since Geralen Stack-Easton in 2012.
The sophomore posted an amazing performance at the recent NCAA Gymnastics Tuscaloosa Regional, posting the top score in the all-around of any of the four regionals with a 39.800 on Friday and the first 10.0 of her career on the balance beam. Her regional performance followed an outstanding SEC Championships, where she won four of five individual events to lead Alabama to its 10th conference title with a 197.875 team score.
Blanco and the Crimson Tide advanced out of the NCAA Gymnastics Tuscaloosa Regional Championships to the upcoming NCAA Championships Semifinals in Ft. Worth, Texas on April 16.
