
Alabama Gymnastics Set for NCAA Championships Semifinal Round in Ft. Worth

The Crimson Tide will compete in the second of two semifinal sessions on Friday, April 16 at Dickies Arena and will begin the night on the vault
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On Saturday night, Alabama gymnastics punched its ticket for the NCAA Championships final site in Ft. Worth, Texas as one of the top-two teams at the Tuscaloosa Regional Finals. It marks the 37th time Alabama has advanced to the final site of the NCAA Championships, the second-best total in NCAA history, just behind Utah.
Now, Alabama knows the details of its latest trip to the national championships. Head coach Dana Duckworth's squad will open things up in the second of two semifinal sessions on Friday, April 16 at 5 p.m. CT. The Crimson Tide will start the on the vault, then advance to the uneven bars and balance beam before closing on the floor exercise. Oklahoma, Utah and LSU will also be in the evening session. Florida, Minnesota, Michigan and California will compete in the first semifinal, which will get underway at 12 p.m.
The top-two teams from each semifinal session will advance to the championship finals on Saturday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. In addition to serving as the gateway to the championships' team finals, the two semifinal sessions will determine the individual champions on the four apparatus and the all-around.
Both of Friday's semifinal sessions will be broadcast live on ESPN2, while the championship finals will be live on ABC.
Alabama At the NCAA Gymnastics Championships
- The 2020 championships season was canceled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic
- This season marks the Crimson Tide's 37 appearance at the NCAA Championships final site, only Florida has been to as many and only Utah has been to more
- On the national level, Alabama has enjoyed staggering success since vaulting into the NCAA standings in 1983 with a fourth-place team finish
- Alabama has been represented at every NCAA Championships since the first in 1982 as either a team (36) or individual (2)
- The Crimson Tide won its sixth national championship, and second in a row, in 2012, marking the first time in Alabama's storied history that the team has won back-to-back titles
- As a team, Alabama has posted 29 top-4 finishes and 13 top-2 finishes
- Alabama gymnasts have also excelled individually, winning 27 individual NCAA championships, including Katie Bailey's 2016 vault title and 2017 uneven bars championship
