
Alabama Throwers Post Career-Best Marks to Open LSU Alumni Gold Meet

Three Crimson Tide throwers opened the weekend with person-best marks in the hammer throw
BATON ROUGE, La. – A trio of Alabama track and field throwers posted career-best marks on day one of the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge, La., Friday afternoon.
Samantha Kunza (62.69 meters) took fourth and Taylor Gorum (60.72 meters) finished fifth in the hammer throw. Both distances were career-best marks, with Kunza bettering her previous PR by 1.5 meters, and Gorum improved her previous best by .12. Kunza's effort also ranks third all-time at Alabama.
In the men's hammer, Kieran McKeag (68.10 meters) finished fourth and Bobby Colantonio Jr. (66.14 meters) took fifth. McKeag's throw covered a career-best distance.
In addition to finishing off its appearance in Baton Rouge on Saturday, the Crimson Tide also has a distance contingent competing at the John McDonnell Invitational the same day.
LSU Alumni Gold
- The LSU Alumni Gold meet continues at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday
- Alabama will compete in the sprints, hurdlers, relays, middle distance and throws on the Bayou
- Saturday's events start at 10 a.m. CT with Alexa Cruz in the women's 5,000 meters and Taylor Gorum and Nickolette Dunbar in the women's discus throw
- The meet concludes following the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m. CT on Saturday
John McDonnell Invitational
- The Tide returns to Fayetteville, Ark., after travelling to the University of Arkansas three times during the indoor track and field season
- Esther Gitahi and Sophie Spada will kick off the Tide's run in Fayetteville on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT for the women's 1,500-meter run
- The Alabama men will conclude the Tide's appearance in Arkansas with the 5,000-meter invite on Saturday at 8:25 p.m. CT
