TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball recently added two additional transfer student-athletes to its roster in Nia Daniel and Jada Rice, head coach Kristy Curry announced on Friday. The duo joins transfers JaMya Mingo-Young and Khyla Wade-Warren as well as incoming freshmen Kayla Blackshear and Taylor Cullinan for next season.
Nia Daniel
5-10 | Guard | Charlotte, N.C. | Hickory Ridge HS/North Carolina/Gulf Coast State
Daniel, a 5-10 guard out of Charlotte, N.C., spent one season at North Carolina before transferring to Gulf Coast State. She has had a standout year for the Commodores, winning Panhandle Player of the Year and All-Panhandle First Team honors. Daniel averaged 23.4 points per game, shooting over 45 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line. She was also the team's leader in rebounds at 7.7 boards per contest.
As a member of the Tar Heels, she appeared in 25 games and scored a season-high eight points on two occasions.
Coming out of high school, Daniel was a three-star rated guard by ESPN and was a four-time letterwinner and three-year captain at Hickory Ridge. She was the 2019 Charlotte Observer Player of the Year and a first team all-state selection and earned MVP honors at the 2018 Battle of the Boro. Daniel was also two-time Cabarrus County and Southwestern 4A Conference Player of the Year.
Curry on Daniel:
"Nia is an explosive, athletic guard with size. She can score and rebound the basketball on every level."
Jada Rice
6-4 | Center | Suwanee, Ga. | Collins Hill HS/NC State
Rice joins the Crimson Tide from NC State, where she played in 35 games and made one start over her two years competing for the ACC Champion Wolfpack. She had one of her best defensive games as a redshirt sophomore in 2020-21, blocking three shots in 11 minutes of action against Coastal Carolina.
Rice was ranked No. 57 nationally in the class of 2018 Prospects Nation rankings and No. 12 at her position. She was instrumental in helping Collins Hill to a 25-5 record during her junior season and a final four appearance in the 2017 Georgia 7A High School State Championship.
Curry on Rice:
"Jada brings a great resume in the classroom and championship experience. Her size will help to add great depth to our front court."
