GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alabama heads into the final day of the 2021 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in 16th place with 53 points after scoring in pair of events on Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
Matt Menke continued what has been an outstanding season for the sophomore. After finishing 13th in the prelims of the 100 backstroke, Menke moved up a spot to 12th with a time of 45.39.
Menke then came back to lead off the Tide's 200 medley relay to a 12th-place finish, combining with Derek Maas, Colton Stogner and Matt King to swim a 1:23.75. Menke's leadoff split of 20.98 was a career-best and the first time he has clocked a time under 21 seconds.
Interim Head Coach Ozzie Quevedo Said
"Matt Menke continues to just put everything out there, giving us everything he's got. All our guys are focused on doing their very best for this team. After a solid start through the first couple of days, the final day of the meet has the potential to be our best of the week. We have to come out swinging in the morning and scrap for every point as we come down the stretch."
