
Eliud Kipsang Earns SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week Honors

Kipsang broke a 21-year old program record in the men's indoor mile at the South Carolina Invitational last weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama track & field's freshman Eliud Kipsang earned Southeastern Conference Men's Freshman Runner of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Kipsang snags the weekly honor after an impressive record-breaking performance at the South Carolina Invitational last weekend.
Men's Freshman Runner of the Week
- With a time of 3:57:83, Kipsang shattered a 21-year old program record in the men's indoor mile, which was previously held by Tim Broe (3:59.38) from Feb. 12, 1999
- The rookie captured his first sub-four mile with a 28.9 final 200m and broke the facility record in Columbia, S.C.
- He recorded his third career victory in the mile with a SEC-leading and national No. 5 time

Kipsang and the rest of the Crimson Tide will head to the Tyson Invitational this weekend Feb. 12-13 for its first of three meets in Fayetteville, Ark.
