After throwing a no-hitter Saturday, Lexi Kilfoyl followed that with a complete-game shutout Sunday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball capped an undefeated weekend at the Easton Crimson Classic with a 2-0 shutout over Troy Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Heads-up baserunning provided the offensive spark for Alabama (14-0) against Troy (13-3), with a first-inning wild pitch scoring Alexis Mack and some great first-to-third hustle by Kayla Davis on a sacrifice bunt forcing an errant throw that allowed her to score and make it 2-0, which ultimately proved final.
After throwing a no-hitter Saturday, Lexi Kilfoyl (6-0) earned her second start of the weekend and threw a complete-game shutout with just three hits and one walk along with nine strikeouts. Since giving up a seventh-inning run Friday night to Memphis, the Crimson Tide bullpen has thrown 21-straight shutout innings.
FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY
"As the competition gets better and better, the execution by our hitters needs to go up as well. If the pitching is great, the execution needs to be even better. Bailey Dowling had a perfect sacrifice bunt and today was probably the first time she was asked to bunt since the ninth grade. Kayla Davis had the play of the game with the heads-up base running, tearing into third base and then scoring a run on the error on the throw. Great baserunning positives for us today basically won the game. These close games are really good for us. Everybody needs to feel that anxiety and that close-game feeling. It's good for us, it's good for the pitchers, it's good for everyone. You can't create that anxiety in-game feeling in practice. I'd love to try, but it's not the same."
