Alabama Swimming and Diving’s Rhyan White Wins Two More Gold Medals at the SEC Championships

The Crimson Tide won four medals on the day, including two gold, one silver and one bronze
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The gold rush continued for the Alabama women on day three of the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being held in Athens, Ga., and Columbia, Mo., this week.
Rhyan White, who won two individual golds a year ago at this meet, added two more individual titles on Friday, taking top honors in the 100 butterfly with a 50.94, before coming back less than hour later to win her second-consecutive SEC 100 backstroke title with a 50.36.
Diana Petkova, who joined the Tide for the spring semester, took bronze in the 100 breaststroke with a 59.16, ranking her third all-time at UA. Tanesha Lucoe capped the night for the Tide with a silver medal finish off the platform, totaling 280.60 points over five dives.
Alabama remains in third place in the team standings, with Florida (779) in first and Kentucky (771) in second after day three.

"We just continue to roll this week. We had a very good morning and that set us up well for tonight. We are so proud of Rhyan, Diana and Tanesha for making it to the medal podium, but really everyone has been focused on getting back at night and scoring points for the team. We've got one more day to go and we have to continue to fight for every fraction of a second and every point."
Inside the Scoresheet
- Along with White's title, Gracie Felner (52.86) took 8th, Maria Reed (54.22) took 16th and Flora Molnar (53.23) won the C final and took 17th overall in the 100 butterfly
- In addition to a gold medal from White, Morgan Liberto (52.96) and Abigail Koczo (53.06) scored in the 100 backstroke, taking first and second in the B final, finishing 9th and 10th overall
- In addition to Petkova, Cat Wright (1:00.11) took seventh and Jocelyn Fisher (1:01.42) was 23rd in the 100 breaststroke
- Sydney Carlson scored in the 400 individual medley to open the night, taking seventh in the C final and 23rd overall with a 4:17.10
- In addition to Lucoe, Halia Bower also scored off the platform, taking 24th with 173.25 points over five dives
- The Tide's 400 medley relay of White, Petkova, Gracie Felner and Cora Dupre took fourth place with a time of 3:30.81
Men's Diving
- While the men's swimming event gets underway on Tuesday in Columbia, Mo., the men's diving is underway this week
- Kevin Li scored for the Tide off the 3-meter springboard, taking 13th with a score of 337.95
