
Program Records Headline the Indoor Regular Season Finale at the Tyson Invitational

Eliud Kipsang and Amaris Tyynismaa post new program records in the indoor mile Saturday
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Alabama track & field's Eliud Kipsang and Amaris Tyynismaa broke the indoor mile records to close out the last day of competition at the Tyson Invitational Saturday inside the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Kipsang shattered his own men's mile record he set last weekend at the South Carolina Invitational (3:57.83) with a first-place time of 3:56.88. Also in back-to-back weekends, Tyynismaa took down another indoor program record, this time in the women's mile. Tyynismaa lapped the track with a runner-up time of 4:33.22, to break the 34-year-old record held by Liz Lynch (4:35.06) from March 25, 1986. Her time of 4:33.22 is also the No. 3 time in the NCAA.
Field Events
- The duo of Cherisse Murray (53-5½/16.29m) and Nickolette Dunbar (52-11½/16.14m) went 1-2 in women's shot put
- For men's shot put, Isaac Odugbesan finished runner-up with a toss of 62-10 (19.15m)
- Christian Edwards used a personal best leap of 53-6¼ (16.31m) to grab third place honors in the men's triple jump
- Riley White cleared 11-10½ (3.62m) to place eighth in women's pole vault
Track Events
- Out of the gate, Tamara Clark clocked a season-best and NCAA No. 4 time of 22.89 in the women's 200m to finish second
- In the 800m Lauren Turner (2:09.84) and Bianca Carroccio (2:10.08) went 8-9 for the women, while Grady Shiflet (1:50.72) placed ninth for the men
- Following Tyynismaa's lead, Jami Reed (10th, 4:42.95) and Sophie Spada (17th, 4:51.11) also ran personal bests in the women's mile
- The women's 4x400m relay (3:57.56) capped the weekend in Fayetteville off with a seventh-place finish
Up Next
Alabama will take a week off before returning to Fayetteville for the 2021 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The championship meet will take place over the course of three days, from Feb. 25-27.
