Tide Tipoff Scheduled for Friday
Basketball season is nearly upon us as we gear up for Friday's Tide Tipoff. This year's event is being held in Foster Auditorium with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The on-court schedule will begin at 7:30 p.m. and includes team introductions, competitions, interviews, giveaways and a dunk contest. Be sure to arrive early to get your seat as it's first come, first served!
Tennis Represented in Finals of ITA Regional Championships
Congratulations to our men's and women's tennis teams, who had doubles pairs advance to the finals at their respective Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships. Our men's duo of Juan Martin and Filip Planinsek began their championship match Monday at 4 p.m. in Auburn, while our women's tennis pairing of Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser will play here at home on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the finals.
Several Sports in Action at Home this Week
In addition to Tide Tipoff and the ITA Regional Championships, we have a handful of other home events on the books for later this week. Volleyball takes on Florida on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Foster Auditorium, while soccer will play one of its two remaining home matches on Thursday when it hosts the Kentucky Wildcats at 7 p.m. Although technically not a home event, swimming and diving will be in action just up the road at the Birmingham Crossplex competing against Birmingham-Southern at 3 p.m. on Friday. Football hosts Tennessee in Bryant-Denny Stadium at 6 p.m. on Saturday, while Sunday's slate features softball against Wallace-Hanceville at 1:30 p.m. and men's basketball versus Louisiana at 4 p.m. in a charity exhibition. Lots of opportunities to come out and support the Tide!
1971 SEC Championship Team and E.J. Junior to be Recognized on Saturday
We are looking forward to welcoming back several members of the 1971 SEC Championship Football Team as well as E.J. Junior, who was selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame last year, as part of our on-field festivities. These weekends are always so special as we get to recognize individuals and teams from years ago the helped create the rich history and tradition we have here at Alabama.
Softball Honored as SEC Champions During Alabama-Tennessee Game
At Saturday's football game, we will also see Alabama softball honored as the 2021 SEC Champions. As head coach Patrick Murphy told Eli Gold last week during the "Hey, Coach!" radio show, "I think that's one of the coolest traditions at Alabama. When you win a championship, you get presented at a football game in front of 101,000 people and that roar … you never ever forget that."
Cross Country Closes Regular Season, Ready for Championship Run
Alabama men's cross country posted a top-10 finish at the Pre-Nationals Invitational last Friday to close the regular season, while our women sent a trio of individuals to gain experience on the same course they'll compete on during the national championships. Victor Kiprop led the way for the men with a third-place among a stacked field in the final regular-season meet of his rookie year. The women head into this week ranked fourth nationally, while the men are 22nd. Up next, we head north to Columbia, Mo., for the 2021 SEC Championships on Friday, Oct. 29.
Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund
As we near the midpoint of the fall semester, our student-athletes have been hard at work pursuing excellence in competition and in the classroom. You can support their educational goals by contributing to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF). The CTSF provides annual scholarship support for our student-athletes, offsetting the costs of tuition, educational fees, books, and room and board. Donors to the CTSF earn three Tide Totals points per $100 donated.
University Spotlight
It's Homecoming week in Tuscaloosa, and this year's theme is "Together We Rise," recognizing the collective spirit of the Tide through current students, alumni, fans and beyond. The SGA Homecoming Committee has planned a week full of events, including a day of service, choreography competition, Homecoming concert, pep rally and bonfire, step show, parade and more.
