Planinsek, Martin Advance to Semifinals At ITA Southern Regionals

The Alabama duo will compete at 11 a.m. CT Monday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.
AUBURN, Ala. – Filip Planinsek and Juan Martin led the Alabama men's tennis team at the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala., Sunday as the UA duo earned a spot in Monday's semifinals.
Planinsek and Martin topped their quarterfinal matchup against Mississippi State's Carles Hernandez and Alverta Colas. Planinsek and Martin lost just three games as they took an 8-3 win in the match.
Planinsek followed his doubles performance with a singles win in the Round of 16 against LSU's Boris Kozlov. The UA freshman recorded mirroring 6-2 scores to take the match in two sets and advance to the quarterfinals against Auburn's Tad Maclean. Planinsek fell in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-2.
Alabama also saw a win from Martin in the consolation matches. Martin defeated Dhruv Sunish from Southern Miss 6-2, 6-3.
Planinsek and Martin will compete for a spot in the finals on Monday at 11 a.m. CT as the duo face Samrakshyak Bajracharya and Ruan Du Preeze from Alabama State.
