
Ferreira, Christiansen Record Wins For Alabama Men’s Tennis At ITA Southern Regionals

The two Crimson Tide athletes compete for a spot in the main draw Friday
AUBURN, Ala. – Joao Ferreira and Rudi Christiansen captured wins on the opening day of the ITA Southern Regionals at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. The UA duo will compete in the final round of qualifying matches tomorrow for a spot in the main draw.
Ferreira and Christiansen opened play in the Qualifying Round of 64 after both athletes received a bye for the Round of 128.
Ferreira faced South Alabama's Javier Montoya in the Qualifying Round of 64, dropping just three games over the two-set match. Ferreira took the first set 6-2 before coasting to 6-1 second-set win.
Christiansen recorded a come-from-behind three-set win to advance to the Qualifying Round of 32. After dropping the first set 6-3, the UA sophomore rallied for a 6-3 second-set win. He closed the match with a 6-4 decision in the third set.
Ferreira will face Calin Postea from Louisiana Friday at 8:30 a.m. CT, while Christiansen's match against Benji Jacobson from Tulane will be at 10 a.m. CT. Christensen and Ferreira will also open doubles action tomorrow afternoon against Louisiana's Postea and Kaeper Dworak.
