
Alabama Men’s Golf Earns Two Victories on Day Two of SEC Match Play Hosted by Jerry Pate

The Crimson Tide defeated Florida, 3-2, in the morning before downing South Carolina, 4-1
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team secured two victories Monday during the second and third rounds of SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate. The Crimson Tide boasts a 2-1 record over the previous three rounds and will square off against Ole Miss in Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Alabama began the day down in three matches during its second-round contest against the Gators before storming back to take the win, 3-2. The match resumed from Sunday evening after play was suspended due to darkness. Following that victory, the Tide dominated in a 4-1 victory over South Carolina.
Tyler Lipscomb and JP Cave led the charge with both posting a pair of wins, while all five golfers recorded at least one victory Monday.
Alabama-Florida (Continuation From Sunday's Second Round)
- After dropping its opening match to LSU, 2-1-2, Sunday morning, the Crimson Tide responded with a 3-2 victory over Florida in pool play
- The match concluded early Monday morning after getting suspended Sunday evening due to darkness
- Tyler Lipscomb downed Tyler Wilkes 2&1, JP Cave defeated Joe Padgin 3&1 and Jones Free downed Yuxin Lin in 19 holes to earn the Tide's three points in the best of five head-to-head matchup
- Free came into the 18th hole 1-down, but rallied to win back-to-back holes to seal the victory
- Thomas Ponder (lost 3&2 vs. Rick Castillo) and Canon Claycomb (lost 1-down vs. Fred Biondi) fell in their matches
Alabama-South Carolina (Third Round)
- The Crimson Tide finished third round action with a 4-1 win over South Carolina
- Cave remains the only unbeaten UA golfer on the week, improving to 2-0-1 with his two victories on the day, including a 3&2 win over USC's Evans Lewis
- Lipscomb was dominant, capturing a 6&5 win over Gene Ziegler to improve to 2-1 over his three matches on the week
- Ponder also played impressively as he secured a 4&3 win over Rafe Reynolds
- Claycomb defeated Ryan Hall 1up to secure the Tide's fourth point
- Jones Free was the Tide's lone loss, falling 3&2 to Jack Wall
Tournament Information
- The Crimson Tide will tee off the final round at 7:30 a.m. CT against Ole Miss off Hole No. 1
- In the winner's bracket, Vanderbilt defeated Georgia (3-2) to advance to the championship. Georgia will be in the consolation match.
- In the other semifinal, LSU is leading Arkansas 2-1-2 with four of the five matches coming down to the 18th hole
- Those teams will resume at 7:30 a.m. off on Holes 14 and 18 until a winner is decided
