Alabama Gymnast Makarri Doggette Named SEC Specialist of the Week

The Crimson Tide All-American won both the uneven bars and balance beam to lead Alabama to a season-opening win over Kentucky

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama gymnast Makarri Doggette was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week after winning the uneven bars and balance beam against Kentucky to open the season the league office announced Tuesday.

Doggette scored a 9.900 to take top honors on the uneven bars and a 9.925 to win the balance beam. The All-American came up after a fall in both events, making her routines crucial to the Tide's 196.850-195.825 team win over the Wildcats last Friday.

This latest Specialist of the Week recognition is Doggette's second after earning the honor following the Tide's 2020 home opener against Oklahoma as a rookie.

The Columbus, Ohio, native and her teammates return to action this Friday at Missouri starting at 7 p.m. CT. The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
