Men’s Tennis Places Six on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

The Crimson Tide was also honored as an ITA All-Academic Team
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team had six members earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete status, while the Crimson Tide also earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition, the ITA announced on Monday. In eight seasons under head coach George Husack, 36 players have earned the honor, as the team was named all-academic for the eighth consecutive year.
Sam Fischer, Patrick Kaukovalta, Alexey Nesterov, Edson Ortiz, Jeremy Gschwendtner and Zhe Zhou all earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the Crimson Tide for their academic work during the 2019-20 season.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
