Women's Tennis Comes Up Short at No. 17 Vanderbilt, 4-3

The Commodores clinched the match on court six
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a back-and-forth affair, the Alabama women's tennis team came up just short against No. 17 Vanderbilt, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon in Nashville. The Crimson Tide (12-6, 0-4 SEC) is still seeking its first Southeastern Conference win, while the Commodores (7-3, 3-1 SEC) picked up their third conference victory so far this season.
Doubles
- The Tide won the doubles point for the second time this weekend, when senior Alba Cortina Pou and freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk downed Cruz/Rosca at the No. 2 spot, 6-3. It was the No. 3 spot that clinched the point as seniors Ann Selim and Luca Fabian moved past Meyer/Kourkina, 6-3.
Singles
- The Commodores had an answer in singles play, after quickly gaining the 2-1 lead with wins from No. 28 Georgia Drummy against freshman Isabella Harvison, 6-4, 6-4 and then Marcella Cruz downing freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk in straight sets. Moments later, Fabian tied things up at 2-2 with her victory on court four.
- Alabama briefly took the lead with senior Alba Cortina Pou's 6-0, 7-6, win over Emma Kurtz. The Dores quickly responded with victory from No. 18 Christina Rosca on court one. The match came down to court six, with Vandy clinching the match in straight sets to seal the 4-3 win.

- The Crimson Tide will continue its road trip on Saturday, March 14 at No. 50 Auburn. The Tide and Tigers are set to begin their match at 12 p.m. CT.
